Pallid Sturgeon Caught in Platte River (posted 10/18/07)

A federally and state endangered pallid sturgeon recently was caught in the Platte River by a UNL researcher. Evidence suggests the fish was not a hatchery-stocked fish, but a wild fish that was naturally reproduced somewhere in the Missouri River basin (see news release).
SNR Graduate Student is First Recipient of Joe Gabig Award (posted 10/17/07)

Zach Cunningham, SNR graduate student, was awarded the first annual Joe Gabig Award at the Nebraska Chapter of the Wildlife Society's annual meeting in Grand Island, NE on Oct. 11, 2007. Zach is currently pursuing a MS degree at UNL, specializing in wildlife ecology (see article).
Map Shows Groundwater Decline Slowed (posted 10/10/07)
Groundwater levels in Nebraska slowed their rate of decline and actually increased in some areas of the state last year, according to the latest map released by University of Nebraska-Lincoln researchers (see news release).
New Digital Map: Agricultural Land Use of Nebraska (posted 10/01/07)

A new digital map portraying Agricultural Land Use of Nebraska has been completed by CALMIT, a unit of the UNL School of Natural Resources. The project, sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, is an expansion of previous mapping work conducted in support of the Cooperative Hydrologic Study of the Platte River (see news release).
